“I was hurt, I was depressed, and just really going through it. I needed to step back, and get my life together. So, I quit going to church to get myself and my life back together.” This was a conversation that me and a coworker were having the other day. She expressed why she stopped going to church and what a terrible year she went through last year. Well maybe you’re going through a tough year, depressed, disappointed, burdened, feeling the weight is too much to bear, maybe you feel like you need to step back from church. Don’t, God is telling you right now to come here. Go to the father, don’t run away.
Matthew 11:28 NIV reads, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Jesus is telling us to come to Him, he is begging us to come to Him and let him give us rest, to give him all of our troubles. And guess what? All we have to do is come to Him, and not run away. Find refuge in Jesus, take all of your burdens to Him. He knows just what you are going through, the tears you cry at night, the tears you cry in the car, the frustrations, the troubles you have at home, on your job, with money, whatever your problems may be He knows, He cares, and He is right there.
For those wondering, my coworker is in a much better place this year and back in church actively. I encourage you all that when you feel you need to step away, don’t, run to Jesus and let him fill you up and give you rest.
