If you know me, you know food and eating are dear to my heart. Thanks to one of my best friend’s mother who also shares the love of food, she introduced me to Jeremy Vines. I must say he is one of the best around the Auburn-Opelika area. I had the privilege to interview Jeremy and I have also tasted his food so I am speaking from experience; it’s a must try.
Jeremy is from Opelika, Al, a devoted husband and father. While Jeremy considers himself an avid gamer, he stepped back to focus on cooking. The cooking passion was planted when he would watch his mother in the kitchen and also from himself working at McDonald’s. Jeremy says that when he worked at McDonald’s, he got tired of eating the menu items so he would use the ingredients they had to make Philly Cheese burgers, quesadilla fries, and a variety of wraps and salads.
Jeremy answered his calling of being a chef in 2017 while working at Baumhower’s Victory Grille. From there he would experiment different techniques and watch a lot of YouTube videos to gain more knowledge. Jeremy officially started his own business Obsidian in July of 2019. If you are wondering like I was where the name came from Jeremy took the time to explain to me. The obsidian rock itself is a volcanic glass formed when lava is cooled rapidly. He said that he had been through so many things that made him into the man he is today. The correlation is the buildup for the volcano to erupt. The eruption he said symbolizes his grind, hard work, and dedication. Obsidian is the result of the struggle in all of its glory.
Jeremy’s cooking career continued as he also worked at Hamilton’s of Auburn. He said there, he locked in under their top chef who helped him perfect certain skills. From there he moved on to working at Amsterdam Café, Ma Fias, and Zazu Gastropub (all very prominent restaurants in the area). While Jeremy spent time at these restaurants perfecting his craft, he had the privilege of being Chef de Cuisine, running lunch specials, and many more.
Why should you choose Obsidian Catering? I’m glad that you asked. Jeremy believes in “farm to table,” therefore, he uses many fresh vegetables. Jeremy is not in it for the money alone, he genuinely loves what he does and takes pride in his work. He also takes pride in taking foods we typically eat and taking them to the next level.
Looking into the future, Jeremy plans to open his own restaurant in addition to a food truck. His goal is to have his restaurant in the Top 50 Restaurants to eat at in the United States. I have included Jeremy’s information below. Please feel free to reach out to him for your catering needs as well as being up to date on his weekly meals. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
