Psalm 55:22 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

I did some thorough research on Cast Net Fishing and one common thing I found was you have to release, or throw the net as the last step. A cast net is used for fishing and it is a circular net with small weights around the edge of the net. You may not be familiar with Cast Net Fishing, but how about a good ol’ fashion game of Ring Toss?  You stand at a designated spot with rings in your hand, and you throw them to try to get as many rings around as many bottles or sticks as you can. Do you know what the coincidence is? You have to throw the rings to have a chance at winning, just like you have to throw your net in order to catch fish.

What Ring Toss and Cast Net Fishing have even more in common is with the above verse Psalm 55:22. The verse tells us to cast our cares on the Lord. That means we must give Jesus our cares. But to fully cast our cares on Jesus, we must literally throw them to Him and release them so He can deal with them. Just like the cast net has weights, our cares might be burdening us; we must press on and we must cast, or throw our cares. The verse even goes on to say the Lord will sustain you, or strengthen you. Just like fishers need help getting their nets back up after they cast the nets, Jesus will sustain and strengthen you after you cast your cares upon Him. The verse finishes that He will never let the righteous be shaken. We must fully trust Jesus to fulfill his promises to us. This week I challenge you, whatever is burdening you, bothering you, etc. fully release it to God and trust that He will give you strength.
